Apex Legends update adds abandonment penalty to Arenas

Apex Legends got a little update that adds an abandonment penalty to Arenas, but, more importantly, also restored the slow effect to Wattson’s fences.

A tiny update went out to Apex Legends recently that penalises players for rage quitting out of Arenas matches, leaving their squad to get stomped by the opposing team. Arenas is a new 3v3 game mode, introduced in Season 9, in which two squads battle it out for glory over a series of matches. So, if someone cracks a sad and quits early, their remaining squad mates are basically doomed. Hence, the update.

Now, if a player in a full squad abandons an Arenas game they will receive a penalty similar to that for abandoning a ranked Battle Royale match. Since Arenas is a public game mode, the penalty is probably a timed lockout from entering a new game and maybe a wipe of any stats for that match. Respawn has yet to confirm the actual penalty.

Community reaction has been mixed with some suggesting a penalty for leaving a public match isn’t fair, but quitting on your squad is also a dick move, so… yeah… maybe don’t?

Then, for all you Wattson fans out there, her fences finally slow enemies again, after Respawn accidentally removed the ability at the start of the current Season. They’re still not super effective, but at least they’re not broken.
