Wizards of the Coast is dedicating a whole season to one of their most iconic characters, drow elf Drizzt Do’Urden, so here’s an animated poem, narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch, to get you acquainted.
Sleep Sound was written by Drizzt’s creator, author R.A. Salvatore, and tells his origin story. Basically, Drizzt is a drow elf who rebelled against his culture and goddess’ desire for him to murder all the things (in an evil way) and fled his Underdark home to live on the surface and be forever hunted by his own people. It’s okay though, because he befriends a sick-ass giant panther, joins a party of trusted companions, and becomes a legend. In your face, Lolth.
The animated poem is just one of the many ways Wizards is celebrating their pale-haired hero. There’s also a Magic the Gathering Forgotten Realms crossover card set arriving on 8 June for digital platforms (with a physical release to follow) and the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance video game due out on 22 June. Check out the full stream below:
According to Polygon, Drizzt won’t be part of the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons movie, but he might be the focus of a live-action TV series that is currently in development.
Roll 20 for hype.
