In this week’s edition of It’s Not GTA VI, Sorry, Rockstar has confirmed that a revamp of its 2013 crime-’em-up is launching on now-gen consoles “with new features and more” on 11 November.
According to the announcement on the studio’s website, the makeover includes “expanded and enhanced” versions of GTA V and GTA Online, but no other info about those technical improvements is available for the moment. On PC, GTA V supports up to 4K at 60FPS, though, so I guess we can probably expect more or less the same on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. For comparison, the game is currently limited to 1080p and 30FPS on those and previous-gen consoles – unless we’re talking about the original PS3 and Xbox 360 game, obviously, which maxed out at 720p. Remember 720p? You kids don’t even know.
Rockstar hasn’t confirmed, however, if this is a free upgrade but don’t count on it because one, the PS4 and Xbox One upgrade released in 2014 required a new purchase of the game, and two, there’s this:
While the standalone version of GTA Online will be available to players on both platforms, this new standalone version of GTA Online will be available for free exclusively to PlayStation 5 players during the first three months.
Free on PS5 for three months? HYPE! Except that means it’s not actually free, it’s just a timed promo with clever marketing.
