The Green Knight

Okay so that fox also speaks in The Green Knight

Now it makes sense why the fox got its own poster. It wasn’t just because of its exceptionally boopable head.

The latest trailer for upcoming epic fantasy The Green Knight just dropped, giving us a proper look at the exceptional visuals and plot, including one magical little fox that I’m just going to assume is a witch in disguise.

The 14th century Arthurian poem on which The Green Knight is based is an elaborate test of knightly chivalry in which the mysterious Green Knight pitches up at King Arthur’s court to play a Christmas game that involves hitting him with an axe. The rules being that if you hit him with the axe he gets to hit you back, the same way, in a year’s time (fun!).

Sir Gawain (Arthur’s nephew) steps up and beheads the Green Knight, probably thinking he’s awfully clever. Unfortunately, the Green Knight retrieves his lost head and is all like “lol, see you next year, friend” (what larks). A true knight must honour his agreements, so Gawain has to go find the Green Knight a year later and accept his fate, after having his knightly resolve tested in multiple ways.

It’s proper medieval fantasy, looks gorgeous, and I am here for it.

The Green Knight is due out on 30 July.
