CS:GO adds premium stats tracking service several websites already offer for free

You can now track your Counter Strike: Global Offensive stats with a monthly CS:GO 360 subscription. Or just keep using one of the many free options available to you on the internet instead, I guess.

The latest patch notes for CS:GO refer to a new subscription service that allows players “access to Competitive match stats from official Competitive, Premier, and Wingman game modes” for the small fee of $0.99 (about R14.00) per month, via Steam. Stats from “Casual, Scrimmage, and other games modes” are not included in the service. It also only tracks your stats while you’re subscribed – sweet deal.

Community response has been lacklustre with many wondering why they should pay to see their stats when many reputable websites, dedicated to stats tracking, already exist and are mostly free. These websites generally pull your stats from a chosen game by using a totally legal API to access a limited amount of data related to your username.

Maybe the new CS:GO 360 subscription contains more detail or is more convenient, but it’s hard to compete with free. Although, don’t be surprised if Valve starts limiting the data available to these tracker APIs in order to make the free sites less useful. Seems like a lot of effort for a game that’s almost 10 years old, though.
