Live-action Powerpuff Girls adaptation is getting its cast together

It’s unclear how much sugar, spice, and everything nice will be required to produce the live-action Powerpuff Girls adaptation, but it’s got its main cast all sorted.

According to Variety, the live-action Powerpuff Girls adaptation has cast its Professor Utonium, rounding out the core good-guy casting with Donald Faison (Scrubs). You may recall the quirky professor who created the Powerpuff Girls and served as their father in the original animated series. Well, now he’s suffering from a mid-life crisis and is determined to repair his fractured relationship with his, now adult, super-powered daughters.

Announced back in August last year, the live-action Powerpuff Girls series (titled simply Powerpuff) will follow disillusioned twentysomethings Blossom, played by Chloe Bennet (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.); Bubbles, played by Dove Cameron (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Descendants); and Buttercup, played by Yana Perrault (Broadway’s Jagged Little Pill). The girls are all grown up and also grown resentful of their crime-fighting childhoods, but they are forced to team up once more in order to save the world. Prepare for super-powered angst.

The series is being written and executive produced for Warner Bros. Television by Heather Regnier (Veronica Mars, iZombie) and Diablo Cody (Juno, Young Adult).
