Free-to-play action RPG Magic: Legends went into PC open beta this week.
Based in the Magic: The Gathering universe, Magic: Legends is a free-to-play ARPG, from Cryptic Studios, in which you take on the role of a Planeswalker battling across a variety of planes to save the Magic Multiverse from “its greatest threat yet”. A man without a neck, I don’t know.
There are currently six classes to choose from, including the Geomancer, Mind Mage, Beastcaller, Sanctifier, Necromancer, and Dimir Assassin (for an extra fee), each with their own unique gameplay style, Abilities, and Perks. And you don’t have to walk the Multiverse alone, you can adventure with up to two friends. Because this is Magic, you need to build up a deck of spells to use in combat, drawing from White, Blue, Black, Red, or Green mana, but you will also collect Equipment and Artefacts to synergise with your deck. Spells are drawn at random when you fight.
Since it is free to play, you can expect myriad microtransactions, with some beta players reporting that pay-to-win tactics are out in full force – boooo.
If you want to join the PC beta for Magic: Legends, it’s available from Arc Games and the Epic Games Store. The full launch for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation will take place some time this year.
