Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is a game for 90s kids in 2021

Serving up a hot slice of mozzarella-topped retro-nostalgia like it’s a KTV after-school special, Streets of Rage 4 and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game studio Dotemu has announced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, the game you almost remember from Wonderland at N1 City except it didn’t actually exist until now.

Much like those other two Dotemu games, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is a side-scrolling beat-’em-up designed to replicate those classic co-op button-mashing arcade vibes with pixelcore aethestics and 16-bit electric guitar synths. I can actually smell the Slush Puppy scum stuck to my neon hi-tops, but I’m over 40 so maybe it’s a stroke.

With Bebop and Rocksteady amassing gizmos to support Krang and Shredder’s latest scheme, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge finds the turtles battling through a breathless tour of iconic TMNT locations to thwart their nemeses’ most diabolical plan yet. Armed with shell-shocking new abilities built on a foundation of classic brawling mechanics, the gang are in for an exhilarating, Foot Clan-stomping romp leading them through the sewers and bustling boroughs of New York City all the way to Dimension X.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is “coming soon” to PC, according to the game’s Steam page, but Dotemu hasn’t confirmed if it’s also launching on consoles. Feels like a missed opportunity if not, because I expect most of this game’s primary market demographic wants to be on the couch where it’s comfortable with, like, a nice crocheted blankie and a mug of cheap vodka. What? It’s medicinal.
