In this week’s edition of Maybe The Internet Isn’t So Bad, meet the Valheim vikings who are here to save you from yourself.
Death in Valheim is super inconvenient – your loot is dropped, and until you get it back, if you even get it back, it’s free loot for everybody else. Promising “No Iron Left Behind”, the Body Recovery Squad is a sort of emergency evac team for players who need backup reacquiring that dropped loot before some other asshole blags it instead.
Talking to Eurogamer, BRS founder Lucas explains that he started the clan after a wrong turn into a Deathsquito.
We were lucky that we had a portal close by and another friend who wasn’t with us. For us it was a quick run back through the portal to grab our stuff. In the discussion of the events it came up – you know, what if we weren’t that lucky? We’d be back in the Stone Age!
That singular moment, losing everything, can be so detrimental to players and has caused some to quit playing the game entirely. I thought to myself, what if it didn’t have to be that way? What if there was a lifeline out there that helped players keep going?
It’s been about two weeks since, and BRS now includes 15 volunteer “operators” working out of HQ on Discord. Applications to join are open too, if you’re up for that. Make Odin proud. Actually, I dunno about that, Odin is probably the kind of guy who’d swipe your loot and tell you “it wasn’t me, it was Loki” with a wink.
…
A wink. Get it? Because Odin only has one eye!
I’m fun at parties.
