Gina Carano, known for her role as badass mercenary Cara Dune in The Mandalorian, will no longer be part of the mega-popular show and Lucasfilm has no intention of ever working with her in the future.
That’s according to io9, which obtained the following statement on the matter:
Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.
Before you cry CANCEL CULTURE in the comments, Carano has a very recent history of sharing some questionable thoughts on a range of subjects including mask mandates, voter fraud, and the Black Lives Matter movement, but it was probably her interesting take on the persecution of Jewish people during the Holocaust that pricked up Disney’s corporate-image-concern ears. The recent Instagram post has since been deleted, but this is the internet so it’s sticking around. Basically, she equated current political disagreements in the USA with the oppression of Jewish people during the Second World War. Yup.
There has been no news on what this means for the next season of The Mandalorian, if Cara Dune will be killed off or replaced, but looks like she’s definitely not getting that spin-off series.
The disappointment is real.
