We all know how sneaky time is. One minute you’re graduating high school, the next Animaniacs is getting rebooted because it’s 20 years old, and children born in 2000 are technically adults. Now you understand the terror potential contained in M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming film Old.
What’s worse than getting old? Getting old over the course of a single day while on holiday on a secluded, picturesque tropical beach. That appears to be the core concept behind Shyamalan’s Old. A family holiday takes a turn for the mysterious when they begin to realise that everyone on the beach is ageing rapidly. Children become teens in a matter of hours, teens become… pregnant? I’m sure it will all make sense, but they cannot leave the beach of decrepitude for reasons, so they must figure out what’s causing the ageing disease or, I guess, die.
Also, there will be a twist, probably to do with the time being a construct or, like, the wind.
The Old cast includes Gael García Bernal (Amazon’s Mozart in the Jungle), Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread), Rufus Sewell (Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle), Ken Leung (Star Wars: Episode VII—The Force Awakens), Nikki Amuka-Bird (Jupiter Ascending), and Abbey Lee (HBO’s Lovecraft Country). Old is based on the graphic novel Sandcastle by Pierre Oscar Lévy and Frederik Peeters.
Old is set to release, only to cinemas (you remember those?), sometime in July.
