World of Warcraft: Shadowlands

Don’t even think about escaping the Maw in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands

Come for the plot, stay for the “Nothing escapes the Maw” jokes in the comments.

The Shadowlands expansion for World of Warcraft is just around the corner, so Blizzard has revealed some of the story to get everyone hyped. And, in case you were wondering who, exactly, would be hyped about this, WoW has an estimated 4.8 million players worldwide (it has to be estimated because Blizzard won’t tell). Which isn’t bad for an MMO that came out in 2004. So, maybe nobody you know is playing it, but somebody is.

Basically, Sylvanas Windrunner is pissed about being deposed as Warchief of the Horde, so she breaks reality and opens up a portal to the afterlife (the Shadowlands) – like you do. She then abducts most of the racial leaders of both the Alliance and the Horde, because if she’s not allowed to play then nobody is. Chaos ensues and that’s probably where you come in and save the day by escaping the Maw every other week.

If you can’t wait, fans can pre-game with the Scourge Invasions event from 10 November, which will have players fighting off hordes of undead monsters in the build up to Shadowlands’ release.

Delayed from its initial October release date, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands will now launch on 23 November. And it’s going to need some room.
