ARK: Survival Evolved gets its windscreen cleaned with next-gen enhancements

Check out that streak-free, 4K shine.

ARK: Survival Evolved, which originally launched in 2015, is getting a whole bunch of enhancements for the Xbox Series X (and probably the S, it’s unclear), that will put the PC version to shame, including “4K output at 30-60 FPS”, “Extreme Draw/LOD Distance”, and “Infinite-Range High Precision Screen Space Ambient Occlusion” – oh baby. And Studio Wildcard has shown it all off with this video of a bunch of landscapes.

Very pretty landscapes, accompanied by that epic, sweeping soundtrack we all know and love, but landscapes nonetheless. No hint of what the game will look like with all the beasties stomping about, because everyone comes to ARK for the exquisite foliage, or how it will run with someone actually playing it. So, manage your expectations. Although, really, there’s no way it’s going to look bad.

Here’s the full list of Xbox Series X enhancements (since this announcement specifies Xbox, it’s not clear if PS5 will get the same treatment):

  • 4K Output at 30-60 FPS
  • Extreme Draw/LOD Distance (Higher than PC)
  • Extreme Level Streaming Distance (Higher than PC)
  • Epic Sky & Atmospherics Quality
  • Epic Subsurface Scattering Quality

  • Max Texture Resolution
  • 16x Anisotropic Filtering
  • Infinite-Range Distance Field Shadows
