Phasmophobia players are getting spooked senseless when they least expect it, but not in a good way.
Phasmophobia is a four-player, co-op horror game, currently in Early Access on Steam, in which your plucky band of ghost hunters must investigate the spooky happenings at various haunted locations, using an assortment of ghost-hunting equipment. It features a minimalistic user interface, voice recognition, and VR functionality for maximum immersion and heart attack potential.
Fans of the genre have been having fun getting their spook on and enjoying the game, but, recently, hackers have been finding their way in to terrorise innocent gamers waiting in the lobby safe-space. Especially if said players happen to be live-streaming.
Yes, it’s a horror game, so scary surprises are expected, but it’s still a dick move. Respect the sanctity of the lobby.
Developer Kinetic Games is apparently aware of the situation and recommends players avoid modded lobbies. You can tell the lobby is modded if there are more then four players, you encounter teleporting issues, or the ambience has a tormented screams of the damned feel. According to Twitch streamer 8Bit Dylan, you can also avoid the hacks by keeping to the beta version of the game.
