The Apex Legends September Soiree started yesterday, adding a limited time game mode, and a fun new game-crashing bug, so Respawn is disabling it for now.
The September Soiree kicked off yesterday with the reintroduction of the DUMMIES Big Day event; a limited-time game mode that lets you play as combat dummies with random abilities that change every match. It’s basically large-scale play-testing for potential new abilities. However, it also added a server-crashing bug related to players not selecting their characters at the character selection screen.
We’re hitting pause on the party. After DUMMIES Big Day went live, we discovered a bug that caused server crashes if a player AFKed on character select. For the health of the game and our players, we’re turning it off and working on a fix with details to come as we have them.

Players probably weren’t selecting anything because it made no difference when the abilities were random anyway. The only thing you could pick was your colour.
I can identify with this, though. I, too, feel like crashing things when people don’t choose their character and let the game auto-select for them. Yes, it’s irrational, I don’t care, just accept your jumpmaster responsibilities, Steve!
The September Soiree will run until 5 October, with new limited time events happening each week. It’s unclear if the schedule will change after the first one got borked. There is also a sale on previous Grand Soiree skins, if you missed out on any of those.
