Apex Legends update gives us back our armour

It’s still Evo Armour, but it’s back to being as protective as it was before Season 6.

Apex Legends Season 6 came with a number of gameplay adjustments, including changing all the armour in the game (except Gold) to Evo Armour (a type of armour that gets better the more damage you do), but also reducing armour health by 25 points. Which doesn’t sound like much, but made many players feel like squishy baby mice when the season began.

According to the patch notes, the change was originally made because Respawn’s internal play testing revealed that players were achieving Red Armour too quickly (giving them 225 total health), meaning  players with maximum armour were too common and could simply soak up the damage done by opponents that should have had the tactical advantage. They tried to fix this by nerfing armour health overall – hence the squishy baby mice scenario.

Well, the latest update reverts that change, so Evo Armour is back to what it was before Season 6, and Respawn says it will keep tweaking the game to make it the best it can be.

We are always striving to improve the experience in Apex Legends. Experimentation is an essential part of that. We won’t always get things right, but it’s important for us to listen and correct things when we don’t.

It does mean that the Red players you meet two minutes into the match will be even more beastly now, though, so… yaaay…
