The Witcher: Monster Slayer

Gotta slay ’em all in The Witcher: Monster Slayer

There have been a lot of comparisons to Pokémon GO already, but The Witcher: Monster Slayer is about more than exposing your balls to innocent monsters.

The Witcher: Monster Slayer is a free-to-play, augmented reality, mobile game developed by Spokko (part of the CD Projekt Red’s collection of game studios) in which you play as a witcher in a pre-Geralt Witcher world. Like any other AR game, Monster Slayer uses your surroundings as the basis for its adventures, populating everyday places with monsters from CD Projekt Red’s Witcher universe, including some you haven’t seen before, using science magic. You will be guided through your monster slaying journey by story-driven quests.

But you’re not just going to wander up to a Leshen, poke it with a sword and claim your prize; you’ve got to do some witchering first. Prepare for your battles by crafting appropriate potions and oils, gathering the right equipment, and checking the local weather (because it matters). Then, you’ll have to track that beast and take it on in first-person combat. Win, and you get a trophy for your virtual wall. Lose, and be shamed for all eternity, or something (the marketing doesn’t say).

The Witcher: Monster Slayer is coming soon to iOS and Android devices.
