The Flash Batmans

Ben Affleck joins Michael Keaton in upcoming Flash movie

The multiverse means every Batman is the real Batman – so can’t we all just get along?

According to Vanity Fair, Ben Affleck, who hung up the bat-cowl after that whole Justice League situation, has joined the cast of The Flash to play Batman alongside Michael Keaton who is also playing Batman again, because multiverse.

And this isn’t a little cameo appearance, both Batmans will apparently have substantial roles, with director Andy Muschietti (IT) saying that Batfleck will be key to the “emotional impact of the movie”. This is because he’s the “original” Batman in this version of The Flash’s eyes and so acts as an anchor in whatever multiverse explorations Barry is getting up to in this movie. I just hope Keaton’s Batman has developed head turning technology for his Batsuit by this point.

The multiverse approach means DC can pretend all their superhero movies are connected, even while varying greatly in style, tone, and quality, without having to do any difficult storytelling work – hooray.

You know what this means, though? Bat-nips are canon.

The Flash is due to release some time in 2022.
