Perhaps not an entirely unexpected contingency since the game included a number of not-so-subtle references to the missing writer, Remedy Entertainment has now confirmed that Control’s next DLC expansion is about Alan Wake. It’s not an Alan Wake sequel, perhaps, but it’s probably as close as we’re going to get for now.
The AWE trailer is, much like the original trailers for the game, not exactly big on exposition. But if you’ve played Control, you’ll remember that Alan Wake’s, uh, predicament in Bright Falls was classified by the FBC as an Altered World Event (AWE) – a convenient narrative revision, maybe, but one that totally makes sense in Control’s trans-dimensional context. In the AWE expansion, according to Remedy’s announcement, protagonist Jesse Faden now has access to the previously locked Investigations Sector of the Oldest House, which features the FBC’s files on – guess what, you guessed it – Bright Falls.
Yes, Bright Falls… the same place where we last saw the writer Alan Wake, who has been missing for ten years. You heard his voice in the trailer, and you’ll see him in the expansion. But saying more than that would be spoiling it.
It’s out on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on 27 August.
