Marvel's Avengers Spider-Man

Marvel’s Avengers is getting Spider-Man as a PlayStation exclusive

Which is not unexpected, because Sony.

Sorry, spider-fans, the friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man will only be available on PlayStation versions of Marvel’s Avengers, as announced in a recent PlayStation.Blog post. Spider-Man will be coming to PS4 and PS5, in early 2021, as part of an in-game event. The event will be “comprised of a series of unique challenges for the hero to take on, testing his abilities, and yielding some exciting results” and Spider-Man will be added at no additional cost.

This is despite the fact that Sony doesn’t appear to have exclusive rights to Spider-Man in video games. Movie Spidey is totally owned by Sony, which is the whole reason he almost didn’t make it into the Disney-owned MCU and almost got taken away again once he was there, but game Spidey is different.

Based on the comic books, Marvel’s Avengers is a third-person action-adventure that sees the Avengers assembling in order to protect the world from criminal organisation A.I.M. Playable characters will include Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, Thor, Ms. Marvel, Hawkeye, and Spider-Man (if you’ve got a PlayStation).

Don’t worry, everyone’s getting the Hawkeye DLC. Yaay…

Marvel’s Avengers is due to launch on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Google Stadia on 4 September 2020. Next-gen versions of the game will launch when the applicable consoles exist, with free upgrades for those that already bought the regular version.
