First launched in 2011 as a Flash-based browser game on Kongregate, this week’s re-launch of Realm of the Mad God’s new client is in the news for the wrong reasons.
Prompting questions like “how did this even get through testing?”, the updated Unity client included an inconvenient glitch that, when uninstalling the game, nuked the source folder with it. Complicating things, the client wasn’t actually even functional when it launched, so a lot of users uninstalled it. I mean, uninstalling and reinstalling a client is, like, the most obvious solution. But D:\GAMES folder? What D:\GAMES folder?
“We are aware of a current issue with the Exalt launcher uninstaller,” Deca cautioned at the time. “We are working on a fix. Until then, those who have the launcher should not uninstall it.”
According to developer Deca’s Twitter account, this problem has since (probably, maybe?) been resolved, but not before some users realised that stuff was… missing. This guy on Reddit, for example, claims he’s out 1.5TB of files.
