Amongst leaks and speculation, Riot Games has announced that their upcoming, free-to-play, tactical FPS is called Valorant and it’s coming soon to a PC near you.
Previously known as Project A, one of a number of different genres Riot is developing games for, Valorant is a five vs. five, character-based, tactical FPS that rewards creativity, skill, and strategy. Gameplay consists of two teams of agents, sourced from real-world locations and cultures, battling it out in a best-of-24-rounds gunfight. Your agent will have both guns and “hypernatural powers” that allow you a unique advantage that’s up to you to figure out.
To lure you in, Riot has promised that Valorant will perform well on a wide range of hardware, for a global audience.
Riot Games invested in an unprecedented, best-in-class technical back-end to support the game, including: dedicated 128-tick servers for all global players, for free; a custom-built netcode in pursuit of precise hit registration; server authoritative game architecture and proprietary anti-cheat prevention and detection from day one.
Valorant will be out for PC around June/July 2020. There is no information, yet, about whether it will come to consoles in the future or not.
