While we fill our libraries with digital titles, the Xbox One gets remote disc ejection update

The Xbox One is finally getting functionality that the Xbox 360 had. So that’s… innovative.

The Xbox 360 could do it, so can the PlayStation 4, and, now, Xbox Insiders are reporting that the latest Xbox One update they’ve received enables you to use your controller to eject a disc, something users have been asking for since day one. Of course, many of us have been gorging ourselves on the variety of titles available with the Xbox Game Pass and aren’t buying as many physical discs as we used to, so this feature will come in super handy.

Does the update also come with a minion to walk over to the console and remove said disc from the disc slot? Because you have to get up to change the disc anyway, you sloth.

The last time I had to eject a disc was when we upgraded from Xbox One to the Xbox One X and Red Dead Redemption II briefly saw the light of day before being tucked back into its warm cave of wonder and delights. That’s just where it lives now, never to feel the harsh embrace of that special edition steelbook ever again.

Do you have any discs that have taken up residence inside your console?

Never eject! Never surrender!
