Turns out, Half-Life: Alyx worked extremely well as a marketing ploy to sell more Index headsets. One might say it was a triumph [HUGE SUCCESS].
According to recent investigations, Valve’s Index headset is sold out everywhere and the company is “working hard to build more units and meet the high demand” in time for the release of Half-Life: Alyx, which is meant to arrive some time in March. At the time of the surprise trailer announcement, Valve suggested that Half-Life: Alyx would be compatible with the majority of available VR systems, but would be best experienced on their fancy new Index headset. A lot of people want to live their best VR life, apparently.
For context, a full Valve Index VR kit costs about $1,000 (around R14,300), or you can just get the headset and controllers for $749 (around R10,760). That’s quite the investment in a game that hasn’t even been released yet. Such is the awesome power of Half-Life.
The Valve Index was never available to purchase in South Africa, but did any of you manage to get a hold of one? Would you buy a VR headset just to play Half-Life: Alyx? Share with the group; we won’t even judge… much.
