Back in October last year, Riot Games announced that it was branching out into, pretty much, every other game genre in existence and one of those (not entirely new) branches is a tabletop game called Tellstones: King’s Gambit.
In League of Legends lore, Tellstones is a game played across Runeterra, for fun and dispute resolution, in which both players must memorise the movements of a set of stones while also attempting to outwit and confuse their opponent. Described by Riot as “a bluffing game with perfect information [sic] for 2 or 4 players”, Tellstones: King’s Gambit appears to be a slightly more involved version of Three-card Monte or Find the Lady, but with circular disks instead of cards.
This isn’t Riot’s first foray into the world of tabletop gaming. In 2016 they released Mechs vs. Minions, a strategic, co-op, card-drafting campaign board game that involved a whole lot of miniatures and a substantial time investment to play. Tellstones: King’s Gambit promises to be a much smaller and faster gaming experience, perfect for a few quick rounds with friends while waiting for your artisanal craft beer to arrive.
There’s no release date for Tellstones: King’s Gambit, as yet.
