Chiitan otter mascot went rogue and got fired

Rogue otter mascot suspended from Twitter

Chiitan, the self-appointed, not at all official, mascot of Susaki City has had his Twitter accounts suspended due to unruly behaviour. This comes after getting the real-life Chiitan, a lovely little otter, and true tourism ambassador to Susaki, fired by association. Shut up, it’s Friday.

Japan has a cute, fuzzy mascot for just about everything these days, including cities, schools, museums, and the military. Susaki was no different, having an official otter mascot, Shinjo-kun, and a tourism ambassador, Chiitan the actual otter.

Enter Chiitan the mascot, who got into trouble for a series of violent videos depicting him beating various objects with a baseball bat, pole dancing, and being otherwise hilariously offensive. This didn’t fit the Susaki City brand so he has since been deplatformed, which includes the suspension of the innocent, real-life Chiitan’s Twitter account. Rude.

Chiitan used to be Susaki's tourism ambassador.
Her only crime was her name

So, obviously, there’s a petition to get Chiitan the mascot his accounts back, never mind that Chiitan the otter is far more worthy of assistance. The injustice is otterly deplorable (sorry not sorry).

For more a more in-depth investigation, I encourage you to watch this Last Week Tonight episode in which John Oliver sends his own mascot to Susaki to keep Shinjo-kun company.
