Epic Games buys Rocket League studio Psyonix, Steam users respond as expected

The acquisition doesn’t mean much for existing Steam users, but if you think that’s stopped them from review-bombing the game – you’re wrong. Different deal, same drama, but with an obligatory “penalty” joke.

Psyonix confirmed the news with reassurances that “Rocket League always has been and always will be a community-driven game, and now that we have joined forces with Epic, we will be able to serve our community in even bigger and better ways!”, promising that “in the short term, nothing will change at all”.

This means that for now and the immediate future, the game will be available to purchase on the Epic Games Store and Steam, with support including “frequent updates that have new features, new content, and new ways to play the game”. What this means in the less immediate future is a not so certain, however, and unless Valve takes up Epic’s double-dare to increase its vendor revenue share, I’d bet on Rocket League 2 being an exclusive on the Epic Games Store.
