Chonky pug is a metaphor for Windows 10 increasing minimum storage requirement to 32GB.

Windows 10 is bringing the chonk for the greater good with increased storage requirements

Microsoft is upping the minimum storage space requirement for Windows 10 from 16GB to 32GB, but it’s technically a good thing. No, really.

First off, why do they need to do this? Going forward, Microsoft wants to use about 7GB of a user’s storage space while applying updates, so that they don’t fail halfway due to a lack of storage. This poses a potential problem when little systems only have 16GB to start with, but that’s been the minimum manufacturers could get away with, due to Microsoft’s own recommendations. Now, this will screw anyone using Windows 10 on older devices, but you have to think of the big picture.

Changing the minimum requirement means manufacturers would be forced to produce their low-end Windows devices with at least 64GB of storage. So, hopefully this means more storage space in the budget-friendly range. Who could be mad about more space? The people with older devices that work fine otherwise? Oh…

The change is included in the 1903 update (May 2019), for 64-bit and 32-bit systems. If you have a 32-bit system, you will be fine until May 2020, when version 1809 expires. After that, it’s recommended you upgrade to something with more storage.
