The critically acclaimed, award-winning anime classic, Cowboy Bebop, is getting a live action mini-series adaptation and my feelings are trepidatious, at best, especially since we now know who will be playing Spike and it’s John Cho.
Okay, he’s come a looooong way since Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, but is he Spike Spiegel; aggressively nonchalant, lanky lackadaisical bounty hunter, with a heart of, something closely resembling, gold? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Other cast announcements include Mustafa Shakir (Luke Cage S2) as Jet Black, Scarlett Johansson Daniella Pineda (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) as Faye Valentine, and Alex Hassell (The Miniaturist) as Vicious. I have no problem with any of these. Shakir has the size and the facial hair, Pineda has the ethnic ambiguity and potential for sass, and Hassell looks appropriately tired. Winning all round.
The role of Radical Edward has yet to be cast.
But, most importantly, who is playing Ein? WHO IS PLAYING EIN!? #andyserkislol
Live-action anime adaptations have not done well, historically, and Cowboy Bebop is a much-beloved franchise, so it’s going to be under a lot of scrutiny, but the internet does love a good corgi, so… thoughts?
