Are you in control? Are you really? Netflix would like you to think you are with the latest in the Black Mirror franchise: Bandersnatch. It has all the 80’s nostalgia you crave, plus a heaping helping of disturbing imagery, and multiple endings. What’s not to love? I’m not even being sarcastic this time.
Black Mirror is a Netflix sci-fi anthology series exploring the very worst of human nature in a collection of all-too-plausible future parables. Continuing in that trend, but set in the 80’s instead of a horrifying future dystopia, is Bandersnatch. Being framed as an event more than a film, Bandersnatch allows the viewer to make decisions that affect the outcome of the story. Much like the choose-your-own-adventure books of old, you will occasionally be asked to make a decision before the story continues. Although I imagine that you won’t be able to flip through to find the best ending if you don’t like the one you get.
Are you ready for that responsibility? Are you? If not, you can always try the new She-Ra instead, it’s actually pretty good. Black Mirror: Bandersnatch is currently available to watch on Netflix so what are you even waiting for? Go get you some trauma!
