Me trying to explain this to “regular” people: So there’s this super popular game called League of Legends and you can play as different champions, no it’s not really about music, but there are these assassin-type ladies, no they don’t usually do anything music-related either, and they made this song and it was super catchy, and the music video went a little viral, and now you can play it in VR, the song, not the game…
In case you hadn’t noticed, back in November, Riot released a pretty popular K/DA – POP/STARS music video featuring alternate reality versions of LoL champions Akali, Ahri, Kai’Sa, and Evelynn. It was just meant to be a promotion for a new set of skins, Riot has done this before, but this time they invoked the power of K-Pop and everyone lost their minds.
So now, in a pretty meta move, League of Legends has entered the VR space in a partnership with the new rhythm-based combat gaming experience: Beat Saber. In Beat Saber you murder cubes representing the beats of a song by slashing them with your sabers which are made of light, but certainly aren’t lightsabers. A fan-made level featuring the song already existed in the game, but the new, official, version has unique graphics and is available at the full range of difficulty settings.
Now you can be the goddess with a blade, something something Korean. Beat Saber is currently available on Steam and the Oculus Store.
