Ubisoft has dropped a trailer for the first of Far Cry 5’s three expansions, in which Hope County local boy Wendell “Red” Redler must save his squad from the the bad guys… in Vietnam. Presumably without the help of Hurk’s mom’s helicopter, which feels like a missed opportunity for some Flight of the Valkyries, but it’s got bombing airstrikes so I’ll take that as a consolation prize.
Launching on Tuesday, 5 June, Hours of Darkness features new weapons (including the era-appropriate M60 popcorn gun, M16 grunt rifle, and SVD sniper) and perks, and unlocks two new modes on completion – Survival Mode limits player loadouts “for a more challenging play through”, and Action Movie Mode does more or less exactly the opposite. New themed assets are also available now in the Far Cry Arcade, for everybody, for free, so that’s nice too.
For an expansion preceding the somewhat bizarre Lost on Mars and Dead Living Zombies DLCs, it’s less Tropic Thunder and more Apocalypse Now than I’d expected, but there’s not much to go on in the trailer so who knows.
Hours of Darkness is part of the Far Cry 5 season pass content, but will also be sold separately.
