We swear we’ve all experienced it. You literally topped up your pay-as-you-go one day ago but somehow those two minutes you spent talking to your mom have chowed all of your airtime. It’s got to be a scam, right?
Right.
Well, at least it was for one Oluwole Aluko who, in 2016, took MTN Nigeria to court over his disappearing call credit. IT News Africa details that Oluwole, who is a legal practitioner, went to court over “alleged unlawful deduction of his call credit” and MTN didn’t mount a defence – or even show up to court – until judgement day. Suffice it to say, he won, with the judge ordering the service provider to pay back the money, with extra, of course. Because damages.
The good news is that Mr. Aluko finally received his $1390 in 2018. The bad news is that MTN South Africa is a whole different beast.
