Despite a number of news outlets having some pretty harsh things to say about PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds’ console debut, the long-awaited Xbox Game Preview release still managed to pull an impressive 1 million players within its first two days.
Over 1M players tried @PUBATTLEGROUNDS within 48hrs of launch on @Xbox Game Preview! This is humbling, so thank you all!
It’s the start of the road on console for us. We‘ve lots to improve & update over the coming months & w/ your feedback we’ll make a great game together!

The wording is interesting, with Brendan Greene mentioning that over 1 million gamers tried the game within 48 hours – all Game Preview titles are meant to offer a free trial, something conspicuous in its absence in this case. PUBG is going for $30 in the States (and R499 locally), so add six zeros to the currency of your choice and you’ll see that there has been some serious money made over the two days since launch.
“In terms of first impressions, PUBG is borderline horrendous,” reads a recent Eurogamer report on the state of the game, “an assault of low quality artwork, jarring pop-in and disappointing performance.”
So, if you haven’t jumped on the bandwagon yet, perhaps it’s a good idea to hang on a bit until they iron out some of the issues.
