If you’ve ever dreamed of running your own bookshop but don’t fancy dealing with late deliveries, customers insisting Twilight belongs in the classics section, or, heaven forbid, the Great Coffee Spill of 2023, then Book Bound might be your jam.

This cosy simulation game from indie developer Bit66 lets you indulge in all the joys of being a bookstore owner without the stress of, you know, reality. Let’s start with the good stuff. The demo for Book Bound perfectly captures the vibe it’s going for: chill, charming, and just a little whimsical.

Imagine the warm fuzziness of curling up with a good book, but instead of reading, you’re arranging shelves, chatting with customers, and crafting the bookstore of your dreams. The pixel art is downright adorable, and the music is so soothing it could come with a free pair of fuzzy socks.

The gameplay is straightforward but satisfying. You can decorate your shop with genre-themed furniture, expand your book catalogue, and help customers find their next literary escape. There’s even a system where selling enough books from a particular genre unlocks bonuses, which is a neat incentive to diversify your inventory.

First Impressions: Book Bound Demo

On paper, Book Bound is a love letter to bookworms and sim fans; however, after spending some time playing it, I feel it is far more like a first draft. While the demo isn’t without its charm, it didn’t hook me enough to make me want to play the full game… yet.

While the decorating mechanics are fun, and chatting with customers adds a nice layer of interaction, the conversations get repetitive, fast. It’s like reading the same chapter repeatedly – charming the first few times but eventually wearing thin.

While the demo teases the bustling city outside your shop, it keeps you firmly planted indoors. I couldn’t help but wish for more exploration – a chance to visit other stores or meet quirky neighbours who’d spice up the narrative.

While the didn’t fully reel me in, I’m hopeful that the developers will build on this foundation for the full release. More varied conversations, outdoor exploration, and quirky side quests could turn Book Bound into a real page-turner.

BOTTOM LINE:

The Book Bound demo is like a prologue to a book you’re not sure you’ll buy yet, but if you’re a fan of super chilled, super cosy sims, it’s worth keeping your eye on.
