Platformer fans, this one is for you. Presenting Bionic Bay, a demo for a game that answers the age-old question, “What if Inside and Limbo had a love child, but with more physics, bizarre sci-fi contraptions, and… eggs?”

Yes, the demo for Bionic Bay can really only be described as “a very large egg doing very strange things.” It’s a surreal setup, but stick with me here – because it’s strange in the most intriguing way.

The world of Bionic Bay greets you with an oppressive vibe, where twisted, mechanical tree trunks coil against corroded machinery, and neon-green ooze is mysteriously contained in massive orbs.

After a blast of light zaps your character, filling them with the pep of a person who just downed all the energy drinks, you’re off – bounding across rickety platforms and jagged pipes, as one does.

Unlike the poor, helpless schleps of Inside and Limbo, the character you play in Bionic Bay is actually built for speed and flips. We’re talking leaps, rolls, lunges, dives, and some of the most hilarious ragdoll physics I’ve seen in ages.

The game keeps the action snappy with frequent checkpoints, which is good because, inevitably, you’ll be sent careening into a wall or laser. And trust me, that’s half the fun.

The real headliner here, though, is a nifty little gismo you pick up early in the demo. With this device, you can swap places with environmental objects, opening up a world of creative puzzle platforming.

The floor’s covered in mines? No worries, just swap places with that nearby crate, and you’re good to go. It’s like solving a Rubik’s cube; only the stakes are your life, and the cube is a wasteland filled with lasers.

The environmental storytelling is on point, too. As you progress, you’ll move from dark, rusting underbelly vibes to areas with lush greens and dappled sunlight filtering through trees—just enough to give a sense that there’s more to this world than dystopian dread.

BOTTOM LINE:

Bionic Bay is a surreal, physics-driven platformer where you’re a nimble character navigating a twisted sci-fi wasteland filled with inventive puzzles and jaw-dropping art.

With its unique object-swapping mechanic and satisfying ragdoll physics, the 30-minute demo offers just enough bizarre charm and engaging platforming to make it a must-try.
