If I had to sum up my thoughts on the Last Moon demo, I would say it’s polished, gorgeous, and full of classic RPG goodness. But Last Moon doesn’t just look pretty – it practically glows with polished charm, like a beloved classic reimagined for modern gamers. Developed by Sköll Studio, a small French team, this top-down action RPG hits that sweet spot where classic mechanics meet modern flair.

Right out of the gate, Last Moon sets a tone of mystery and moonlit mayhem. The land and the moon are tainted by a creeping corruption, twisting the once-prosperous If tree into a source of decay. Enter our hero, the lunar knight, a brave warrior born from lunar crystals, ready to take on the darkness with little more than a sword, shield, and spirit companion.

In true RPG fashion, Last Moon wastes no time getting players into the action. You’ll be swinging that sword, dodging enemy attacks, and blocking with precision – or, if you’re like me, forgetting to dodge because spamming the attack button just feels right.

Eventually, your block skill transforms depending on your weapon, and campfires become handy respawn points where you can restore health after any… learning moments. But be warned: Last Moon is the kind of game that politely nudges you to think before you jump into combat, balancing its glowy visuals with some seriously punishing moments if you don’t.

The demo also introduces you to puzzles ranging from simple to mildly brain-twisting. Need to move a boulder to reach a switch? Check. Find and defeat a lurking enemy to open a path? Got it.

Treasure chests, which usually contain valuable runes, await those who take the time to explore, and runes unlock powers that can change your gameplay style. However, you’ll only have so many slots available to equip them, so mix and match wisely.

Eventually, you reach Selene, a quiet village with one resident frozen in lunar crystal. Freeing this person unlocks the first dungeon, Uldar’s Well, where the action really ramps up.

The dungeon’s boss might look like a pushover, but Last Moon quickly reminds you that pattern memorization and reflexes are key. Beat it, and you’re in for a tough series of encounters, with enemies bunching up and branching paths waiting to be explored.

BOTTOM LINE:

Last Moon’s demo is a beautifully polished, top-down RPG with a cosy, familiar feel and plenty of fresh twists.

With a satisfying mix of classic RPG elements, Sköll Studio has nailed the balance between nostalgic charm and modern mechanics.
