In Die in the Dungeon, players fight their way through an ever-expanding dungeon armed with an unconventional weapon: dice. That’s right—this isn’t your typical deck-building roguelike. Instead, think dice-building.

You’ll roll, place, and strategize your way to victory (or inevitable doom), caught in a dangerously addictive gameplay loop that feels like your brain has developed a dice addiction it never saw coming.

While it might not be snagging a Game of the Year award anytime soon, the demo definitely earned a spot on my wishlist. The premise is simple: you’re the hero, equipped with an arsenal of dice, battling wave after wave of enemies.

Rather than constructing a traditional card deck, you’re building a “dice deck” made up of vibrant dice: red for attack, blue for block, green for healing. Every roll is a gamble, every placement a critical decision, especially as purple Boost dice enter the mix to add some extra firepower.

But don’t let the simplicity fool you: each roll, every placement, matters. And once you throw in curses, upgrades, and relics that warp the rules in clever and challenging ways, the strategy deepens. It’s like a D&D campaign where the dungeon master is hellbent on making your life miserable—in the best way.

Each turn, you start with three energy to place dice on your battlefield, a grid that’s as much your ally as it is your enemy. Roll high? Fantastic! That’s solid damage dealt. Roll low or misplace your dice? Prepare to get clobbered by whatever monstrosity is lurking nearby.

The board itself has tricks up its sleeves, too. Some slots activate lingering effects—like healing or bonus attack power—that can make or break your run. Meanwhile, upgrading your dice becomes essential. Before long, you’ll be swapping out those pitiful D6s for gleaming Gold dice that never roll below a three.

Relics also play a chaotic role, either blessing or cursing your run in ways that make you laugh, cry, or both. One relic might scatter random +1s across the board, while another offers extra energy every other turn but punishes you with dismal rolls in between. These high-risk, high-reward mechanics turn every relic into a gamble – and honestly, that unpredictability is half the fun.

Die in the Dungeon feels like a natural fit for fans of Slay the Spire or roguelikes that thrive on randomness and replayability. The demo is fast, fun, and endlessly addictive, perfect for a quick session – or an all-night binge of “just one more roll.”

Bottom Line:

Die in the Dungeon combines simplicity with wildly fun, unpredictable mechanics that keep every run feeling fresh. If you love dice games and don’t mind a bit of RNG heartbreak, this is one release worth waiting for.
