Those of you who venture into Azeroth will surely know of the tale of Ibelin Redmoore, the blonde-haired character from the guild of Starlight, who was played by real-life Mats Steen, a young man stricken with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
On the 18th of November 2014, Steen sadly passed, and his family posted a message on his blog site stating this. To their surprise, they were flooded with emails and messages from many around the world stating how much of an impact Steen has on their lives through his World of Warcraft character, Ibelin.

Today marks Steen’s 10th anniversary of passing, and many will be gathering around his in-game gravestone to pay their respects. “Deeply Missed, Never Forgotten” is an in-game memorial site dedicated to Steen, located on a small piece of land in Crystal Lake in Elwynn Forest.
The memorial is designed to imitate Steen’s real-life gravestone, and the name, “Deeply Missed, Never Forgotten,” is the direct translation of the Norwegian inscription from the stone.
For those who would like to hear more about the story of Steen and his in-game World of Warcraft character Ibelin, Netflix recently released an almost two-hour-long documentary titled “The Remarkable Life of Ibelin,” where clever use of animation and old, home-recorded videos have been used to portray the whole story. May describe it as touching and heartfelt, and have struggled to hold back tears just minutes into the documentary.
Otherwise, if you are logging in today, the memorial site is on the Argent Dawn EU server, and I’m sure many will visit it to grieve, remember, or honour someone they love, as Steen would have wanted.
