If your idea of fun involves charging around as a knight, smashing things, and slashing baddies while wielding ridiculous weapons (yes, even pans), then Big Helmet Heroes is about to be your next obsession.

Developed by Exalted Studios and published by Dear Villagers, this 3D beat-’em-up action adventure had me grinning with every chaotic swing of my oversized sword.

And while I played through the demo solo, much like Sackboy, this game is undoubtedly designed for two-player co-op to shine. So, if you’re planning to dive into the demo, learn from my mistake and bring a friend along for the ride.

The demo starts with you as a knight, battling waves of enemies in colourful, vibrant environments. As you journey, you’ll free other knights, each with their own set of weapons and over-the-top supercharged moves.

The best part? You can swap between these knights on the fly. While one knight’s taking a breather (healing from all the emotional damage you’ve put them through), the other is out there bashing heads with whatever insane weapon they’ve picked up: crossbows, ice guns, you name it.

And while co-op will likely be the game’s real star, it’s not half bad playing solo. The combat is a satisfying blend of strategic blocking and glorious button-mashing chaos, and sure, I experienced a little lag here and there, but it didn’t stop me from thoroughly enjoying my time with this demo.

One of the highlights of Big Helmet Heroes is the dynamic combat style. Whether you’re playing as the methodical Warrior with sword and shield, the devastating Brute with a massive two-handed weapon, the lightning-fast Rogue with twin daggers, or the Monk who spins through enemies like a staff-wielding tornado – each style brings its own unique flavour of destruction.

BOTTOM LINE:

Big Helmet Heroes is shaping up to be an absolute riot, with quirky weapon choices, dynamic combat, and the kind of chaotic fun that’ll keep you coming back for more.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some knights to free – and some pans to swing.
