God of War Live-Action Series To Start From Scratch

According to TV and Film reporter Deadline, the live-action God of War series that Amazon and Sony announced a good few years ago will be scratched out, scrapped, and started over with a whole new team behind it.

Rafe Judkins, writer for The Wheel of Time and the Uncharted movie, was the original showrunner for the God of War series and, together with executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, had submitted scripts for the show’s first season to Sony and Amazon.

While the work of the executive show-running team has been highly praised, both Sony and Amazon didn’t quite agree with the creative direction, and therefore, Judkins Ostby and Fergus left the show entirely.

Amazon and Sony are now on the hunt for a new showrunner and are creating a new writers’ room to hopefully create the live-action series that the God of War franchise deserves.

Amazon’s series description reads: “When his beloved wife dies, Kratos sets off on a dangerous journey with his estranged son to spread her ashes from the highest peak — his wife’s final wish. This will test the bonds between father and son and force Kratos to battle new gods and monsters for the fate of the world.”

This should sound pretty familiar to anyone who has ventured into the 2018 version of the God of War franchise, which saw the series take a Norse dive into mythology over the original Greek dally with the gods.

Either way, with the recent success of live-action adaptions like Fallout and One Piece, it’s hopefully a positive thing that Amazon and Sony are taking this as seriously as possible, ensuring that the show delivers exactly what we’re all waiting for Dwayne, The Rock, Johnson playing Kratos and Kevin Hart playing Atreus.
