A New Digital TTRPG That Hopes to Bring Friends Together on Their Couches

Fans of Jackbox-style party games might be excited to hear that a new “beginner-friendly” version of Dungeons and Dragons meets Jackbox could be coming to a TV screen near you pretty soon.

Mike Morhaime, co-founder of Blizzard, recently started a publishing company, Dreamhaven, with two studios working beneath it. Secret Door, one of those two studios, has just announced their latest game, Sunderfolk, which promises an exciting DnD-like experience with the ease of couch co-op party games like Jackbox.

The game is designed to be played on a TV screen, where up to four players huddle together over a large bucket of popcorn and their mobile phone screens. Your mobile phone acts as a personal details screen, and your hand of cards is displayed simultaneously, while the TV screen shows the shared information and playboard.

The game style is “Us Against the World” and follows a storyline most would be familiar with: the protection of a town plagued by hordes of monsters.

Sunderfolk will be released for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS5, and Xbox sometime in 2025, and the companion app will be supported on iOS and Android devices.
