343 Industries Changing Things Up for the Future of Halo

343 Industries, the development team behind Halo, has decided to embrace the future of gaming and has since changed things up.

After rebranding as Halo Studios, the company will switch from the Slipspace engine used in all previous Halo games to Unreal Engine 5.

In the six-minute video breakdown, the company explains how the switch will allow the team to focus more on the actual game than “being a tech company” focused on ensuring Slipspace is up to scratch.

lead FX artist Daniel Henley proposed a project to the team to showcase the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5 with the Halo universe. The showcase demonstrated three different biomes and a few models and gadgets used in-game, showing the team how they can bring Halo back to the forefront of beautiful gaming.

“The original Halo franchise was a graphics showcase, it was best-in-class. That’s what Halo was when it first was released and that’s what Halo needs to be again.” – Daniel Henley

The company shift obviously created a few rifts in 343 Industries, and as such, around 95 staff members who wanted to stick with Slipspace have since left the company. This does, however, mean that Halo Studios is now looking for a few positions to be filled. If you’re a Systems Designer, Musical composer or 3D artist, perhaps this could be your chance to get involved with one of the most iconic game franchises to grace our screens.
