Devolver’s Big Fan Label To Tackle Film, TV, And Comic Adaptations

Devolver, the studio that can’t seem to do wrong, is at it again, but this time with a twist. Say hello to Big Fan, their new label publishing video game adaptations of films, comics, TV shows, and everyone’s favourite cult heroes.

Yup, that’s right. This Wednesday morning, Devolver casually announced they’re stepping into cross-media storytelling, and if you’re picturing quirky, indie-style adaptations with a dash of Devolver’s signature chaos, you’re spot on.

Think John Wick Hex, but with more weirdness and a budget that won’t make you clutch your pearls. Now, before you start dreaming up games where Gandalf joins the cast of Peaky Blinders, it’s worth noting that Big Fan already has some heavy hitters on board.

They’re partnering with Disney, Dark Horse Comics, Rebellion, and Lionsgate straight off the bat, so expect a healthy mix of capes, aliens, and maybe a dash of Star Wars. Plus, the folks behind this operation have worked on properties like Lord of the Rings, Blair Witch, Dune, and Star Wars.

Devolver’s announcement doubled down on its belief that indie games can elevate these beloved franchises in ways only an interactive experience can. Translation: We’re going to see these universes reimagined in bizarre, wonderful ways that’ll make fans both cheer and possibly question their life choices.

Oh, and here’s where things get wild. Devolver has invited you, yes, you, the person who once had a dream about a Fargo farming simulator, to send them your ideas. They didn’t even say the ideas have to be good, so, you know, go nuts.

Some previously released titles like John Wick Hex, Hellboy Web of Wyrd, and Reigns: Game of Thrones proudly wear the Big Fan badge. However, the real excitement lies in the six unannounced projects currently in the works. Could they be a Mad Max meets Animal Crossing crossover? A survival horror set in the Glee universe? We can only dream.

It’s worth mentioning that video game adaptations have come a long way since the soulless movie cash-ins of yesteryear. Gone are the days of broken controllers and disappointment (well, mostly).

Now we’ve got gems like the Arkham series and Spider-Man. Big Fan seems poised to keep that momentum going, assuming they don’t accidentally greenlight a Fast & Furious rhythm game. Then again, with Devolver, anything is possible.
