Get your wallets ready, fellow adventurers. WizKids is about to drop a treasure hoard of miniatures straight out of Baldur’s Gate 3. The new line, cheekily titled “Adventures From Baldur’s Gate,” is set to include all your favourite origin characters, plus the charmingly creepy Withers, all for the modest sum of 50 shiny gold pieces or R862 for those in South Africa.
If that’s not enough, you can try your luck with R450 booster packs, which feature 40 different mini-monsters and characters for your tabletop escapades. Think of it as rolling a d20 every time you open a pack. Will you get a Beholder or a Bugbear? Only fate (and RNG) knows.
These miniatures are part of WizKids’ Icons of the Realm series, a collection of prepainted minis that WizKids slings like they’re handing out health potions before a boss fight. WizKids has already dipped their toes into the Descent into Avernus and Planescape campaign settings, but now they’re coming at us full force with a Baldur’s Gate 3 collection.
And if you’re getting déjà vu, that’s because this feels like the second coming of the Dungeons & Dragons Miniature Game from the early 2000s. If you want to pick up these little guys for yourself, they’ll be hitting shelves in February.
Now, where I start to become disenfranchised with everything is when it comes down to the sheer cost of it all. If you want the origin character pack and the bricks of booster packs, you’ll be out $200 or R3450. Right now, the boosters only come in bricks without the ability to order just individuals.
For R3450, you can pick up some seriously nice figures, let alone minis. But while this all feels like casting Mage Hand when you really needed Bigby’s Hand, it is still cool to look at and imagine owning. Sigh.
