Sony’s latest PS5 update finally includes some home screen customisation, just in time to soften the blow of that R20,000 PS5 Pro price tag.
The update features a new tab called the Welcome Hub that replaces the Explore Tab. Users can add a variety of widgets to this page, from trophy numbers to online friends, console storage, device battery life, and more.
You will even be able to change the wallpaper for this page from a selection of still and animated images from Sony or from your own Screenshots collection.
The Welcome Hub is being released in a phased approach, starting with users in the US, as always, and will come to the rest of the world in the coming weeks. I was pretty sad to see that I have not yet been selected as one of the elite few to get the update, but I guess I can wait a little longer.

The update also brings with it a few other features, including Party Share, which allows users to send a link to their party via social media apps, letting anyone, even those who aren’t your PS friends, join your party chat. You also get personalised 3D Audio Profiles for headphones and buds, individual user toggles for Remote Play, denying some users remote access to the console, and adaptive charging, only for the PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro.
The full details for the update can be found on the PlayStation Blog site here.
Hopefully, by the time I’m done reading all the fine print, I will have been selected as a Welcome Hub member so I can finally customise my PS5.
