Black Myth: Wukong – 10 Tips And Tricks To Get You Started

To quote Miley Cyrus for a second here (and no, you may not judge me), Black Myth: Wukong has come in like a wrecking ball. See? That quote was excellent. Perfect even. Much like everyone’s new staff welding, monkey obsession.

It’s an undisputed fact that very few games released this year have managed to be as universally captivating among gamers as Black Myth: Wukong. And even if it’s not the type of game you’d usually drift towards, it seems that everyone and their mothers have been giving it a shot.

At the end of the day, though, Black Myth: Wukong is a challenging action game, and regardless of whether this is a genre you’re familiar with, a little bit of help can go a long way.

Which is why I present to you, dear gamer, 10 Tips and Tricks to get you started. We also just posted an article on everything you should know before diving into Black Myth: Wukong if you’re looking for even more aid to help you be the best damn Wukong you can be.

Now, without further ado, here are 10 Tips and Tricks to get you started in Black Myth: Wukong.

Black Myth: Wukong - 10 Tips And Tricks To Get You Started

Pick up everything that isn’t nailed down. From the start of your journey, you’ll stumble upon plants – this is a game set in the outdoors, after all. And while these plants won’t do much until a wise soul teaches you the art of medicine crafting Chapter 2, a good old stockpile never hurt anyone.

Stockpiling these magical flora means when the time comes, you’ll be ready to brew up all the potions you need and the more supplies you have, the more power you’ll wield in battle, from boosting your attack to shrugging off damage like it’s nothing. Or you know, as nothing as damage can be in this game…

Keep an eye out for suspicious cracks and sneaky holes in the walls. In Black Myth: Wukong, hidden paths are everywhere, but like those last few achievements I need to Platinum a game – they love to play hard-to-get.

So, if you spot a crack in the wall – do exactly what you should never do in real life and dive right in! You might find hidden treasures, essential items, or even some elusive spirits waiting for you. Exploration pays off, so don’t let those sneaky gaps go unnoticed.

As my dad would say: Breathe. Not every enemy will be back to haunt your dreams and dampen your doorstep after a Shrine rest. Unique foes are one-and-done deals, especially those that drop Spirits or give you a hard time, like the Bandit Chief in the Forest of Wolves or the Wolf Assassins in the Black Wind Cave.

So, rest easy when you take them down, knowing they won’t be waiting for round two. Who said Black Myth never gave you anything?

Turns out moths had it right all along, and you should always move towards the light – and by light, I mean you should follow the golden trail like a moth to a flame.

But seriously, if you’re ever lost and near a shrine, just look for the shimmering path that appears. It’s your personal, Wukong-esque GPS, guiding you straight to the nearest Keeper’s Shrine.

Keep your eyes peeled for treasure chests and boxes hiding in plain sight. Some are flashy golden chests that practically shout, “Open me!” while others are a little more sneaky, camouflaged as ordinary wooden logs.

While you’re at it, don’t forget to check out the smaller boxes near altars – they’re packed with upgrade goodies, Gourds, Soaks, and all sorts of treasures you’ll need for your adventure.

Enemies with shields are like walking barricades with a bonus durability bar above their health. To save yourself some hassle, try these tricks:

Either lure them into attacks that leave them vulnerable, sneak around to their backs, or use Immobilize and Cloud Step to slip past their defences.

The goal is to break their shields, not your patience.

Grasping the difference between Spirit Attacks and Transformation Spells early is key to conquering those tough battles. To break it down, Spirit Attacks briefly turn you into a Yaoguai for one big attack.

However, the downside of this is that a) it’s fleeting and b) you’re basically a sitting duck while you’re transformed, and you can still take damage. On the other hand, Transformation Spells give you a whole new health bar with its own set of status effects.

Transformation Spells can be used to dodge danger or shake off pesky effects that don’t follow you when you switch back.

Equipping a Spirit isn’t just about unleashing their flashy attack – each one also gives you a handy passive buff when you’re not using their special move.

Customize these bonuses to suit your playstyle: maybe you want a damage boost when you’re low on health or a defence perk if you’re taking too many hits. It’s like having a little helper making you better at being you!

Make sure to swing by Shrines regularly to check out their fresh stock. After clearing out areas or defeating bosses, new items become available. It’s like a mini shopping spree after a big fight, so don’t forget to pop in and see what new Armor and Equipment you can snag.

Your future self will thank you for it! Trust.

Don’t be afraid to shake things up with your playstyle and stances. Since you can reset your skills anytime at a Shrine, feel free to mix and match until you find what works best for you.

Hitting a tough spot? Switch things up and see what new skills might give you the edge. There’s no wrong way to build your character—just find what suits your style and have fun with it. But hey, who am I to talk? When it comes to Wukong I’m there for a good time, not a successful one.

And there you have it – my top 10 tips and tricks to get you started in Black Myth: Wukong. But here’s an 11th, and it’s the most important one: just have fun.

Wukong can be a tough nut to crack, and it’s easy to get lost in your frustration. Remember, amidst all the challenges, there’s plenty of beauty and excitement to enjoy. I know telling you to “just have fun” is about as helpful as saying “calm down,” but seriously—when you loosen up, the game becomes a lot more enjoyable.
