If you can’t recall playing Fruit Ninja or Jetpack Joyride on your mobile device, you’ve obviously never owned one. These iconic mobile games have claimed many personal hours of my own, lamming on a bean bag and taking turns with my mates at 3 AM on a Saturday, but now, Luke Muscat, one of the game’s designers, has gone solo and released a game of his own.
Feed the Deep is Muscat’s first solo-developed game, and he’s slated it as a “Lovecraftian roguelike” where players will need to feed the beast of the deep to keep the floating cities above safe and, well, not eaten.
Featuring dark caves and breathtaking dives, players are bound to catch a jump scare or two while hurriedly looking for more air.
The game is nice and cheap at only R72 on Steam but is currently undergoing a 15% sale, meaning for a mocha-choca-latte-frapp, you could instead pick up this “Very Positive” game for hours of procedurally generated, Cthulhu-based fun.
Muscat said in a pre-release video for Feed the Deep that he is on a mission to produce two more solo-developed indie games over the next few years, setting himself up as a solid indie game developer before establishing a proper work-life balance.
If you’re picking up the game or have any fond, fruity jetpack memories, let us know in the comments below.
