Portable mobile gaming is a hot topic in gaming right now, and many tech brands are jumping on the hype. The Asus Rog Ally was one of the first mainstream portable gaming devices to land in South Africa; today, the company announced that the upgrade to the Rog Ally, called the Rog Ally X, is available in South Africa.
The ROG Ally X will be available starting today and can be purchased from the Asus shop, Computer Mania, and Game Online for R17,999. Then, after this initial batch is sold out, the next pre-orders will be shipped on the 22nd of August and will also be available in-store at Incredible from September.
Gamers looking for a portable gaming device for a good price should still consider the original Asus Rog Ally, which can be picked up for under R10,000 – a great deal.

So, what does the new Rog Ally X bring to the party? Well, there is plenty to be excited about with its updated features. First up, the storage has been increased from 512GB to 1TB, and it features 24GB of RAM compared to the 16GB available on the Rog Ally.
The battery received a power boost with double the amount of watt-hours compared to the Rog Ally, bringing it to 80Wh.
Asus also introduced a few cosmetic changes, such as a new black chassis with more comfortable grips and smaller rear buttons. The Asus Rog Ally X also sports louder front-facing speakers and an improved cooling system that will let you squeeze more performance from that AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme chipset. Interestingly, the new fans in the Rog Ally X are 23% smaller but utilise 50% thinner fan blades to improve overall airflow.
Our favourite upgraded specification is the new maximum charge speed, which has been increased from 65w to 100w. Unfortunately, you’ll still find a 65w charger in the box.
We’ll reserve our final judgement on the Asus Rog Ally X until we’ve got some hands-on time with it but so far, the upgrade looks promising.
