For the first time ever, ACGL will be running their ACGL Gaming Championship (AGC) this weekend, from the 26th to the 28th of June, at the University of Cape Town Sports Centre.
The AGC is looking to be the largest competitive gathering of esports talent from across schools and universities, and thanks to its partners, has bumped up the total prize pool to a whopping R133,500.
Spread across multiple games, scholastic gamers will battle it out in Fortnite for R25,000, Rocket League for R36,000 and EAFC for R25,000. There will also be a sum of R47,500 donated to a competing school in need of an upgrade to their esports centre, to help better train its students.
The AGC combines three of ACGLs separate leagues (school, ASL, university, AUL and public competitors) to create a massive esports fiesta for all to battle it out and support their local teams at.
“AGC is the culmination of every branch of ACGL, bringing together schools (ASL), universities (AUL) and our public competitions. This can be seen as a landmark culmination of the past decade of operations. Our aim has always been to strengthen the community, and by having all these different sectors present it creates a strong path for aspiring esports players to take.” – ACGL’s Head of Educational Esports, Adam Thomas-James
With over 300 competitors taking place this year, there are bound to be some epic headshots across field goals and nitro-fueled tricks for everyone to enjoy. Make sure you’re following africanesports and ACGL Alpha on Twitch to ensure you don’t miss out on any of the action.
